Sex slavery of children: Together we can eradicate forced child prostitution

This post was written by Holly Craw

Trey Gass (Center) spends a lot of time talking to people about child sex trafficking and encouraging them to get involved.Working for a cause, especially one as far-reaching as child sex trafficking, takes commitment, dedication and sacrifice. Trey Gass has chosen to give up time with friends and doing typical teenage things to be at events to address the cause of forced enslavement and prostitution of children and sell wristbands proclaiming “Save A Life”.  He also missed his sister’s birthday party for that reason.

Fifty percent of sales of his merchandise goes directly to StreetLight USA to provide restoration services to girls who have been sex trafficked.  Continually on the lookout for ways to improve his sales, reach more people, and have more to contribute to StreetLight, Trey has consulted with friends and successful business owners for his next steps.  He is working on a website and expansion of his product line in order to make the biggest difference possible in the lives of victims.

Although he claims he hasn’t heard of lives being drastically changed by his work, he does recognize the impact he is making.

What I have had tons of people say to me after an event is “Thank you”. I hear this almost every event because people say they are impacted by seeing me as a teenage guy stand up for something and show them not all teenagers are the same. This is exactly what I am aiming for. People tell me all the time that seeing me do what I do makes them do things to help others because if a 17 year old kid can do it, then they believe they can do it, too, and that is what I want people to know.

As a spokesperson for StreetLight and as an entrepreneur creating a cash flow to help support the Phoenix area safehouse for trafficked girls, Trey Gass has ambitious goals for his work.  He is more than ready to enlist others into the cause of fighting child sex slavery.

I would like for more people to be aware that this problem occurs in their city. I want people to wear Save A Life items and be proud that they are making a difference and to tell people about the problem. I want to make an investment into peoples lives so that they can make the biggest difference that they can. I want my story to be something people can base themselves and their efforts off of so that they can help others

Action steps you can take to fight for the restoration of the survivors of forced prostitution, and to protect the safety of children like Trey’s sister or the other sisters and daughters in your community:

  • Visit Trey’s Save A Life Facebook page and give it a Thumbs Up
  • Order a wristband or t-shirt for yourself and the people in your circle
  • Inform the recipients of the wristband and those who ask about it of the horrible sex crimes that are being committed against innocent children every day.
  • Join with an organization such as StreetLight USA to learn more about the issue and take action against child sex trafficking.
  • Start your own discussions about sex slavery on your blog or Facebook or other social media

Every day, over 100,000 children are brutally raped a dozen or more times a day.  Trey is one person taking a stand to make a difference.  For each person who joins the cause, the collective voice is mulitiplied in effect.
