Beth McDonald of Phoenix KEZ 99.9FM will award $50K to charities in honor of Bill Austin
If the Geico Gecko says “15 minutes can save you 15%”, StreetLight USA has a better deal for you. How about $10,000 for ten seconds of your time to help in the restoration of girls who have been enslaved in forced prostitution?
Spirit & Word, the online non-denominational spiritual resource created as a legacy for Phoenix KEZ radio personality, Bill Austin, wants to give away $10,000 to five deserving non-profit groups. The campaign is called “Pass the Plate and Pass It Forward”, and it is simple to participate. Anyone can nominate a favorite charity online by giving a little information about the organization. The winners will be determined by a committee selected by the radio station, with results announced on the December 14th “Beth and Friends” show on KEZ 99.9FM.
StreetLight USA (formerly StreetLight Phoenix) would like you to help nominate them.

Talking points for nominating StreetLight USA
- StreetLight is a safehouse for up to 48 girls, 11-17 who have been recovered from sex trafficking
- Girls are provided safe housing, medical care, education, counseling, life and transitional skills, and personal mentoring to aid in their recovery.
- There is no other such comprehensive and holistic facility for these girls in Arizona
- Nearly all of the 100,000 to 300,000 US kids at risk for being sex trafficked have already been abused at home. The majority have been sexually abused.
- Sometimes CPS is involved in these cases, but the girls run from home or from foster care.
- At least 1/3 of the runaways get picked up by a pimp within 48 hours on the street
- Both the pimps and johns are likely to beat and rape the girls frequently, and they are demeaned in every unimaginable way.
- Foster care in Arizona is inadequate for the children in the system and not suitable for the immense needs of girls traumatized by forced prostitution
- The only other placement for these sex trafficked children is juvenile detention, making them the criminals and not the victims of the most egregious child abuse crimes.
- Phoenix Vice has identified approximately 300 underage girls on the Phoenix streets who are compelled to be victims of child-rape-for-profit 10-15 times or more every night. Many times that number are advertised for sale online.
- Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport is a major destination hub for travelers seeking sex with children
- The average lifespan of a girl who is enslaved as a paid sex object is seven years.
- Every night that StreetLight is filled, a minimum of 480 violent, sex crimes against children will be prevented
- These children deserve a safe, caring place for Christmas to restart their lives.
In addition to the $50,000 already pledged by KEZ, all donations that come in through the Donate button on the Spirit and Word site from December 1-14 will be equally divided between the five winning non-profit agencies.
