StreetLight Phoenix loses a friend: Local police officer slain

This post was written by Holly Craw

Glendale police officer Brad Jones, 27, had been a friend and stalwart supporter of StreetLight Phoenix.  He had been to the campus numerous times working with the resident survivors, and always exuded compassion for the girls.

Officer Jones was shot down Friday night as he was assisting on a call to a probationer, 20-year-old Ryan Heisler, who pulled out a gun.  After shooting the officer, Heisler stole the squad car.

Other officers pursued Heisler from 75th Avenue and Glendale to 81st Ave and Glendale, where he crashed the vehicle, was shot and apprehended.

Officer Jones died from his injuries a few hours later.  His wife and two young children are left to grieve their husband and father.

Memorials for Officer Jones have been placed by citizens at the scene of the shooting.  A fund has been set up in his honor to benefit his family:

Fund Name: Bradley Jones Memorial Fund
Bank: Arizona Federal Credit Union
Account #: 822633

Services for Officer Brad Jones will be 10 AM Friday at Christ’s Church of the Valley, 7007 W. Happy Valley Road, Glendale.
The gatherings in honor of Jones will begin Wednesday at 6 p.m. with a candlelight vigil at the Glendale Public Safety Memorial at the Glendale Civic Center Plaza, 5750 W. Glenn Drive.
