Awareness

In 2007, a group of individuals began asking a series of “what if” questions: What if Phoenix could become an example to other cities in our nation and around the world of the enormous potential when market place leaders, city leaders, young people, churches, faith based and non-profit organizations work together to eradicate child sex slavery? What if one of our greatest testimonies to society became a unified, loving effort that not only talked about issues of injustice but also helped solve one?

StreetLight had to educate an unaware audience of the realities of child sex slavery in our backyard.  The Branded Film and movement was created for this purpose.

StreetLight believes in research advocacy, creative youth presentations, local prevention models and media impact on educating the public. StreetLight has the ability to communicate the message to people of all ages and backgrounds creatively and effectively.  To book a speaker or host an awareness event, please contact us.

Branded: A Documentary

One of our awareness tools we utilize is Branded  Branded is a feature length documentary that explores the dehumanizing realities of prostitution and the devastating effects it is having on the lives, neighborhoods, and communities of Phoenix, AZ. The film also highlights the courageous work being done by the Phoenix Police Department, the Phoenix Police Department VICE Unit, the Sex Crimes Bureau, Dignity House, various non-profits, and members of the government to combat this social injustice. branded exists to inform and motivate individuals to tangible, purposeful social action against the sex slave trade of children and to honor the victims of those caught up in the terrible wake of this living nightmare.

Prevention

As individuals became aware of the horrific injustice, a dynamic case study was  developed of the enormous potential for solving problems through a multi-sector collaboration. To date, the collaboration in Phoenix has grown to include the Phoenix Vice Uni, Mayor’s office, Attorneys, like-minded Non-Profits, National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, FBI, Human Trafficking Task Force, students and faculty of ASU, 30+ churches and thousands of individuals zealous to play a role in eradicating this injustice.

Making great gains, StreetLight, and the Center for Arizona Policy joined forces to craft legislation increasing penalties from a misdemeanor to  a class two felony for anyone seeking to engage in solicited sex with a prostituted child. In the Spring of 2010 House Bill 2238 was approved by the Arizona State Senate which strengthens Arizona Law to better protect minors who are being raped for profit.
